Westlund Turns to Old Form of Transportation for New Form of Advertising
(September 9, 2009)- Eugene, OR-- Oregon Senator and Democratic and Independent nominee for State Treasurer Ben Westlund (D-Bend) is taking an unconventional approach to advertising his candidacy. Westlund has started advertising on one of the oldest forms of transportation, bikes.
Westlund started advertising last weekend with signs on bicycle cabs operated by Cascadia Cabs in Eugene. Not only do his signs grace the cabs, but the operators are also handing out campaign literature to interested riders.
"Our cabs receive considerable attention at the U of O Ducks games, the Farmers' markets, the Eugene nightlife scene, and other local Eugene events, such as the upcoming Eugene celebration parade. Our cabs are new to Eugene and are very novel and highly visible so it is a good opportunity for Mr. Westlund to get his name out there," said Ryan Hashagen, owner of Cascadia Cabs.
"I really like the idea of supporting alternative transportation and this small business that is trying to do the right thing," said Westlund. "As State Treasurer, I will continue advocating for out-of-the-box solutions that move Oregon forward."
A retired successful business owner, Ben Westlund is known as one of Oregon's most effective champions for making health care more affordable and investing in new renewable energy sources.
He and his wife Libby, who serves on the Mount Bachelor National Ski Patrol, have two children: a son B.J. (20) and a daughter Taylor (15). They live in Tumalo, just outside Bend.
